Coronavirus Outbreak: How To Postpone Your Move
Due to the Covid19 outbreak across the globe, mobility is restricted. If you had planned to relocate during this time, here’s how you can plan to postpone your move.
1. Take a few deep breaths:
It might be important for you to relocate. Maybe it is for a well-paying job or something else that must be done right away. But remember that nothing is more important than your health. Take a few deep breaths and calm yourself. This way you’ll be able to manage the situation better.
2. Call your moving company:
If you were going to move with the help of a professional moving company, call them up and clear your doubts. No one knows when mobility will be normalised, but your moving company might be able to give you a rough date about when they expect to get moving again. They might not refund you but would offer to reschedule for free.
3. Extend your lease or postpone your sale:
Every legal contract has a clause of ‘force majeure’. It means that if something happens that is out of a human being’s control, like a natural disaster, no party can sue another for the obligations agreed in the contract. If you live on rent call your landlord or landlady.
4. Set a new date, a few months later:
Don’t plan to move right after the restrictions are lifted. It will take a longer time for things to return to normal. Give a buffer period of one-month atleast. For example, if you were going to move today, plan to move two months later. Be prepared.
5. Call concerned people where you were relocating:
Everyone understands the severity of the pandemic. Just call them and tell them you have postponed the relocation and they will understand. If it was a job offer, it will stand as it is. If it was a house you were looking to lease, the landlord or landlady would have extended the lease of the person who was already living there and might keep it on hold for you. Just talk, it will help you figure everything out.
Stay calm, stay home, stay safe.
