How to Pack Wine Bottles Before Your Move?
Packing and moving can be a nightmare. You might have figured out a system to move all of your essential items, but you might have missed the most important commodity in your home. Wine! The sweet nectar of gods is so precious that Greek mythology designated a God of wine and let’s be honest; he is the most important of all.
In this blog, we will share some tips on how to pack and move your possessions’ crown jewel.
Planning
The 1st and obvious step is to lay out all your bottles and take a good look. Keep a note of the number of bottles, weight, length and the kind of wine you want to move. All these factors will dictate the number of supplies you will need and your gameplan to pack and move.
Packing Supplies
Ideally, you should rent or buy genuine wine moving boxes as they have multiple layers of protective walls, and you can choose custom sizes to match your wine cabinet. Although you can make do with sturdy cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, rag cloth, packing paper and duct tape.
All of these supplies can easily be found in hardware stores. You can hit up your local alcohol stores and mini-marts to procure good quality cardboard boxes.
Packing
● Once you have procured all the supplies segregate the bottles according to similar shapes and heights.
● Wrap every bottle first with paper and then bubble wrap tightly.
● Create cardboard dividers, place all the bottles gently in the box, and ensure that the partitions are sturdy and will not bend.
● Once you have packed all the bottles snugly, fill the empty spaces with packing paper and secure them with tape.
● Finally secure the bottom of the box with multiple layers of duct tape.
Additional Tips
● Always lay the bottles sideways or upside down. This ensures that the cork stays wet and expanded, protecting the wine from being oxidised.
● Label the boxes to know which side is the top and use fragile stickers to ensure that no one handles them roughly.
● Never ship opened bottles; there is a great chance of breakage or leaks.
