Simple Mantra To Make Your Move Eco-Friendly

Climate change and global warming are not a concept anymore. Every small action can cause a drastic change in the environment, negatively or positively. You are probably among the elite few who truly care about our posterity and live a very eco-friendly life.  Although, have you ever pondered the carbon footprint you leave behind while executing the mundane task of moving and packing? Petrol/Diesel, polythene bags, plastic bubble wraps, plastic tape *gasping for breath*….. The list just goes on and on. It’s very scary.

Being eco-friendly comes down to 3 simple concepts:

  • Efficiency
  • Minimalism
  • Proactiveness

Let’s see how we can become better roommates to our Earth, using these simple concepts.

Moving Truck

Hiring professionals or renting a moving truck might seem unnecessary, especially when the distance is less. Even if you consider yourself as a minimalist, at the time of packing you will realise that you have way more stuff than you ever imagined and one trip in your car just won’t cut it.

Taking multiple trips in your car consumes more gas than one trip in the moving truck. This helps you reduce your carbon footprint while being cost and time-efficient.

Improvise Adapt Reuse

Let’s embody minimalism and learn how to use things that you already have in your home and don’t shy from being creative.

  • If you already have suitcases and sturdy bags, use them instead of cardboard boxes.
  • Use your towels, mats, scarves as packaging cushion. These work perfectly well for items that aren’t very fragile. Say no to plastic bubble wrap.
  • Instead of buying cardboard boxes, you can rent out boxes. If this isn’t a viable option, time to be proactive and hit your local stores for boxes that they blatantly discard. Grocery stores, medical shops and wine shops are really good options.
  • Why only consider bags and boxes as storage spaces? If you have sturdy pots, cups, vases or any such artefacts, fill them with smaller objects instead of stuffing them with paper or plastic.

Before You Go

Some of these tips might seem silly or too small, but remember that every little step contributes to a revolution. Use these simple concepts and not only use them while packing and moving but in every aspect of your life.

Be part of the future, be eco-friendly.
