Here’s A List Of Essentials You’ll Need On Moving Day

Moving to a new city or even a new neighbourhood can be a difficult experience. The entire process requires months of planning and the logistics of every small aspect can be exhausting.

We have compiled a list of essential items you will need on a moving day. Most people take care of the big ticket items, but the small things will make a huge difference and smoothen the transition experience. Let’s dive right in.

Cleaning supplies

Small cleaning items will be a lifesaver during the move. If you pack every item with the haul, you will end up unravelling your entire packing strategy. Your new home will get dusty and dirty during the move and cleaning supplies need to be easily accessible before the mess triggers your anxiety.

Apart from quick cleanups, you will also need essentials like towels, tissues and rags to sustain the first few days in the new home. The unpacking process takes time and you will need the following cleaning supplies to keep your home and yourself in pristine condition.

  • Detergent spray
  • Tissue rolls
  • Rags
  • Newspapers
  • Towels for personal hygiene
  • Toothpaste and toothbrush

Food

Might seem like a trivial point but do not underestimate how time and attention-consuming the moving day can be. It is very easy to forget about food and water until it is too late and it is possible you might not find food to order by the end of the day.

Pack at least two bottles of water and electrolytes per person and keep them handy in your car or personal bag. Remember that you might not have access to kitchen supplies for over twenty-four hours. Pack food items that are not extremely perishable and more importantly, easy to eat without cutlery. Food like sandwiches, granola bars, wraps and biscuits are excellent examples of moving day food supplies.

Personal bag

As mentioned above, you might not be able to access 90% of your packed belongings for a few days. It is essential to pack a personal bag that will be with you at all times and is easily accessible.

A personal bag can be a multi-utility camping bag, a small suitcase that is easy to lug around or even a couple of cloth bags. Apart from cleaning supplies and food, remember to carry items that are important to you. Here are some examples.

  • Phone charger
  • Face wash
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Emergency and general medication
  • Paper, pencil, pen and other similar supplies
  • A basic toolkit to fix small issues around the house
  • An optional pillow in case you need a particular one

Moving is a complicated process and the list can be unending. Although, if you adhere to the given list, you are mostly set to have a pleasant experience. Sometimes it is important to ask for help and if you need it with any packing and moving-related process, contact us.
